Panchayat

A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives constituted to carry out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj Institutions. In the case of a Grama Panchayat, it serves as the principal governing body responsible for implementing the decisions of the Gram Sabha and managing the day-to-day administration of the local area. The Panchayat consists of a President, who is the head of the institution and presides over meetings while providing overall leadership and supervision; a Vice President, who performs the President’s duties in their absence; and Ward Members, who are elected representatives from each ward and represent the interests of their constituents. History of Grama Panchayat

Ancient temples such as the Sree Krishna Swami Temple represent the rich religious heritage of the region. The Valiyakalavoor Temple is traditionally believed to be one of the 108 temples established by Lord Parasurama. There is also a longstanding legend that the Madathumkara Temple served as a resting place for pilgrims travelling for the Murajapam. The Aryad Juma Masjid is believed to have been established during the period AD 1500–1600 and is regarded as a symbol of ancient Muslim architecture. The Mannanchery Juma Masjid and the Ponnad Juma Masjid are also among the oldest Muslim places of worship in the region.
